Only a phone call away...

"Only a phone call away" I think I have heard that a million times throughout my life from either family or friends, but it never really sank in what that meant until yesterday. You see, Jake and I have had mostly a 'letter/phone call' relationship for the last 4 years. When he was on his mission I couldn't wait until I got a letter or for Christmas or Mothers Day to come so I could talk to him on the phone. These days, I can't wait to get a letter, but Sundays are my favorite day because of the phone call we have. It shocks me how different I am and Jake is compared to our generation. We rely on phone calls and letters while others rely on a text or facebook post. Texts can go so bad so quickly, and facebook can turn a friendship ugly real quick by what is posted, but a phone call is life, is voice, is real. You can hear the emotion in that persons voice and you can hear how they say something. A letter is handwritten and shows the emotion through the writing. OMG, LOL, BRB, LMAO, R, U, and many other acronyms are used with texting and facebook these days, but I don't know maybe it's just me, but I can't stand to see someone text how r u, or 2nite, or lol lmao u r so g8t. I would rather have someone write out the whole word. Anyway, my point really is last night I got a phone call from Jake and honestly he is my fuel. Just to hear his voice can make me get through weeks of not seeing him. I love to talk to him and that saying "only a phone call away" really is what it says, when you talk to someone you miss so much, just their voice can make the world of a difference. He told me he is doing great and that he got the ribbon for Marksman (I think I spelled that wrong, oh well), which means he was the best shooter in his flight and got 47 out of 50 of his targets. That is awesome! He really likes it there, and likes what he is learning. Of course, he misses me, but I'm happy he likes it there and isn't miserable. I will see him in 2 weeks and 3 days. We are so excited for that to come because it has been long enough, but it still went by really fast. My point of this post is that phone calls are still the best way of communication when you aren't around each other. No matter how much technology is out there, old fashion phone calls are my way of staying "connected".
